The Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRF) says it has spent more than K1 billion on food assistance during this year’s Ramadan, reaching over 30,000 households across Malawi.
FGRF Director of Communications and Public Relations, Ibrahim Omar Mataya, said the programme reflects the organisation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during the fasting period and ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
He said the interventions, implemented nationwide, have targeted both urban and rural households in need.
“Our focus has been on easing the burden on struggling families and ensuring they are able to observe Ramadan and celebrate Eid with dignity,” said Mataya.
As part of the initiative, FGRF on Thursday distributed food packs to about 4,000 Muslim women in Blantyre at Kanjeza Primary School ground.
The packs, which included maize flour, rice, sugar, salt, soya pieces and buckets, are intended to help families prepare for the celebrations.
Mataya said the programme is also aimed at promoting the values associated with Ramadan, including compassion, sharing and community support.
Kanjedza Sister’s representative, former Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia, also commended FGRF for their consistent support of the community.
“Providing food packages for 4,000 women is no small feat. We appreciate this gesture and the organization.
They have been a tremendous help to the Kanjedza sisters every year,” Mia said.
One of the beneficiaries, Linda Sabiti Bulian from Machinjiri, said the donation would enable her family to celebrate Eid.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development says Eid-ul-Fitr prayers will be held either on Friday, March 20, or Saturday, March 21, depending on the sighting of the moon, with the public holiday to be observed accordingly.
