Minister of Education, Science and Technology Bright Msaka has described the late Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Director General Brian Banda as a highly respected journalist whose work had a profound impact on the lives of many Malawians.
In a condolence message, Msaka said Banda’s contribution to journalism and the country would be remembered, describing his death as a loss to the nation.
Msaka, who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice-President for the Eastern Region, said he was joining President Arthur Peter Mutharika and Malawians in mourning the veteran journalist.
“Mr Banda was a highly respected journalist. His work had a profound influence on the lives of many Malawians, both young and old, across the country,” said Msaka.
Banda died on Saturday at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre after a short illness.
He was appointed MBC Director General in March this year, having built a long career in journalism and media.
Banda will be laid to rest on Monday at Chileka in Blantyre.
Msaka has also conveyed his condolences to Banda’s family, friends, colleagues and the entire nation, praying for comfort during the period of mourning.
