Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) operating at Pacific Towers in Limbe have hailed the facility for significantly improving their business operations and working conditions.
In separate interviews, business owners expressed gratitude to Pacific Limited for providing a modern and secure trading environment, saying the development has helped them conduct business without disruptions.
One of the traders, Aisha Mussa Iman, 41, from Ndirande Township, said she previously sold merchandise in an open space without shelter.
“We used to struggle under the scorching sun, and whenever it rained, business would come to a standstill. Since I secured a shop at Pacific Towers, my business has improved tremendously. I am now able to sell comfortably without worrying about weather conditions,” said Iman.
Another trader, Ishmael Chizinga, who deals in electronics, said the modern complex has not only improved business operations but also transformed the outlook of Limbe and Blantyre as a whole.
“This building has changed the face of our town. We need more infrastructure developments like this to keep up with modern standards,” he said.
Chizinga added that similar structures are common in other countries and encouraged both government and investors to support such developments in Malawi.
A customer at the facility, Brenda Banda, described the premises as accessible, convenient and secure.
“In the past, it was difficult moving from one place to another in Limbe to buy different items. But with this market, I can access various products under one roof,” she said.
Pacific Towers Operations Manager, Winnex Affick said the facility was designed to provide a conducive environment for businesses, with amenities such as piped water, electricity and modern sanitation facilities.
“All the shops are fully occupied, and we are continuously improving the facility to ensure business owners operate in a stress-free environment,” said Affick.
Pacific Group Managing Director Faisal Aboo said the company plans to replicate the initiative in Lilongwe as part of efforts to support SMEs in the capital city.
“This initiative forms part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programmes. We want to promote a sustainable commercial ecosystem because providing a safe business environment contributes to economic growth,” said Aboo.
He added that the development also benefits local authorities through the collection of permit fees, trade licences and city rates.
Pacific Limited constructed the current market value K30 billion complex in 2022 in response to the growing demand for safe and modern business spaces.
Apart from real estate development, Pacific Group has also been involved in community development initiatives. Since 2015, the company has rehabilitated more than 9,000 non-functional boreholes to improve access to safe drinking water.
