Vice President Dr Jane Ansah and church leaders from the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) and the Malawi Council of Churches (MCC) have stressed the need for continued collaboration in promoting peace and development in Malawi.
Speaking during a meeting with the church delegation in Lilongwe, Ansah described peace as key to national development and urged young people to take an active role in shaping the country’s future.
“I believe in change, especially in the young people as they are future leaders,” she said.
Ansah also commended President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for maintaining peace and stability in the country, particularly during the 2019 and 2020 demonstrations.
Leader of the delegation Reverend Professor Billy Gama said the church remains committed to supporting government efforts aimed at promoting unity, peace and development.
Gama said the church has continued to play an important role in national transformation, citing the clergy’s contribution to Malawi’s democratic transition in 1992.
The meeting forms part of a broader consultative gathering involving church leaders from across Africa focusing on peacebuilding, development and strengthening relations between the church and the state ahead of the 2030 General Elections.
