The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has ordered Chaundhry Associates to stop construction of a shopping mall in Area 10, citing encroachment into reserved area.
In stop notice number 2026-08-103, the Commissioner for Physical Planning says the land is “part of the catchment for Area 10 dam” and is therefore “not suitable for the development of a shopping complex”.
The notice adds that, under the 2030 Land Use Plan for Lilongwe City, the plot is reserved or designated “for recreation and conservation purposes only”.
The developer is advised that, if aggrieved by the decision, they may appeal to the Physical Planning Council within 30 days of the notice being served
