NBS Bank has issued a statement expressing regret over the trophy presentation incident at the 2026 Charity Shield held at Bingu National Stadium, which caused distress to Lilongwe Mayor Peter Banda.
The bank emphasized that, as a sponsor, it was not involved in event management, security, or the removal of any individual, as these responsibilities fall under organisers guided by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and FIFA protocols.
NBS Bank reaffirmed its strong partnership with Lilongwe City Council and commitment to professionalism, stating it is working with FAM and stakeholders to review the incident and improve future event protocols.
The bank also highlighted that the Charity Shield remains a key platform for promoting unity and social impact, with this year’s proceeds supporting the Green Girls Boarding Initiative in Mzimba.
