The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) is investigating Gertrude Lemani Trapence, the wife of Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) chairperson and founder Gift Trapence over Malawi Rural Electrification Programme contracts.
According to the information that we have, Trapence through her Gemira Trading allegedly corruptly obtained a MAREP contract and other contracts with other government agencies.
Details show that Trapence received K3.1 billion for the contracts within 12 months from August 2022 to July 2023.
Sources within ACB have confirmed the investigation.
