Minister of Local Government Ben Phiri and Minister of Health Madalitso Baloyi today conducted joint inspections of markets in Lilongwe to assess waste management following an executive order by President Peter Mutharika on Sanitation and Hygiene in all public places.

During the tour of Lilongwe main Market and Nsungwi markets, Phiri urged authorities to maintain proper sanitation, hygiene, and waste management.

Meanwhile Health Minister Baloyi added that this is crucial for protecting the wellbeing of both vendors and customers.

The inspection begun with a donation of waste bins from Aces Limited Company. Chifundo Banda of Aces Limited Company said the private sector is committed to supporting the implementation of the Executive Order by the President.

The visit follows President Mutharika’s Executive Order No. 2 of 2026, which mandates the immediate installation and upkeep of waste disposal facilities in all public spaces, schools, and workplaces to curb rising cholera cases.
