World Engineering Day: Ben Phiri Challenges Engineers to Provide Solutions to Malawi’s Infrastructural and Technological Challenges

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ben Phiri has challenged engineers in the country to provide solutions to some of the infrastructural and technological challenges which the country encounters.

He said this in Lilongwe during celebrations marking the World Engineering Day.

Phiri said a bigger percentage of the K5 billion Constituency Development Fund (CDF) will be spent on infrastructure projects that will require guidance and advice from engineers.

“75 percent of the CDF will go towards infrastructure, which is your field. But we are looking for quality and good performance. As Ministry of Local Government, we are assuring you of collaboration in infrastructure development,” Phiri said.

President for the Malawi Engineering Institution (MIE) Ronald Gundamtengo said that the engineering sector has the potential to transform infrastructure development in the country by taking advantage of advanced technologies and innovations.

The theme for this year’s world engineering day is “smart engineering for a sustainable future through innovation and digitalization.”
