Creck Hardware and General Suppliers has handed over the newly constructed Msundwe Police Unit to the Malawi Police Service (MPS), in a move aimed at improving security and police service delivery in the area.
The facility, valued at K380 million, was constructed after the previous police unit was destroyed during protests over the 2019 presidential election results.
Speaking during the handover ceremony on Wednesday, Creck Hardware Managing Director Apostle Clifford Kawinga said the company responded to a request from the Malawi Police Service made in 2024.
Kawinga said the project was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives and its contribution to national development.

“At Creck Hardware and General Suppliers, corporate social responsibility is key because we focus on national development, hence today’s donation,” he said.
He said the company believes in giving back to communities and expressed hope that the facility would contribute to reducing crime in Msundwe and surrounding areas.
Kawinga also appealed to the community to take responsibility for protecting and maintaining the facility.
“We appeal to the community to make sure that the facility is well maintained so that in the 20 years to come it should remain the way it is because we have used quality products,” he said.
He said Creck Hardware would continue supporting communities through various initiatives aimed at improving people’s welfare.
Inspector General of Police Richard Luhanga commended Creck Hardware for constructing and handing over the facility to the police.
Luhanga said the police unit would help improve security and access to police services for people in Msundwe and surrounding areas.
“This is good for us as police and people around the area because police units serve the community and the facility will improve the security situation here,” he said.
Luhanga reaffirmed the police service’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the country to enable people to conduct their businesses freely.
He, however, warned communities against vandalising police infrastructure whenever disagreements arise between them and the police.
“Let us learn to resolve conflicts accordingly without vandalising infrastructure and if that happens, police will do its job in accordance with the law,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Senior Chief Kalolo thanked Creck Hardware for providing the facility, saying it would help in efforts to combat crime in the area.
The facility includes police offices and two modern cells and is expected to strengthen police operations and improve service delivery to residents of Msundwe and surrounding communities.
