Govt Injects Fresh K10bn into Medf Loan Programme

The government has released an additional K10 billion to the Malawi Enterprise Development Fund (MEDF) for Constituency Development Fund (CDF) loans, bringing the total funding for the 2026/27 financial year to K25 billion.

MEDF Chief Executive Officer Kayisi M’bwana Sadala said the latest funding was the second tranche, following an initial K15 billion received in the first quarter of the financial year.

In a public announcement issued on Wednesday, MEDF called on eligible women and young people across the country to take advantage of the funding by applying for loans through their respective Area Development Committees (ADCs) and councils.

The loans are intended to promote entrepreneurship, support business growth and improve livelihoods.

However, MEDF has expressed concern over delays by some councils in processing applications, saying the situation has affected access to the loans and left some constituency allocations underutilised.

The fund said while some councils had made progress in submitting applications, others had yet to do so, despite the availability of funding.

It has therefore urged councils that have not submitted applications to speed up the process to ensure eligible women and young people benefit from the programme.

MEDF also appealed to stakeholders involved in the initial vetting and processing of applications to expedite their work to ensure timely access to the loans.

The fund said the public could monitor the progress of CDF loan disbursements across constituencies through its live dashboard at https://cdf.medf.mw, as part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability.
