Vice President Dr Jane Mayemu Ansah has challenged young Malawians to champion change and take an active role in shaping the country’s future.
Ansah was speaking Saturday at the National Youth Conference at Mzuzu Hotel, organised by the University of Livingstonia under the theme “From Constitutional Promise to Reality: Section 30 and the Right to Development for Malawi’s Youth.”
She said the youth will inherit the Malawi built by previous generations but will determine what the country becomes next.
“Young people of Malawi, your generation is not waiting for history. Your generation is making history,” Ansah said.
She urged young people to use their education, skills and technology to build businesses, enter agriculture, manufacturing and creative industries, and participate in public service and leadership.
“Do not allow anyone to convince you that the youth must always be recipients. You can be producers, you can be investors, you can be employers, you can be innovators, you can be leaders, and you can be partners in national development,” she said.
Ansah also challenged the youth to reject crime, corruption and the pursuit of quick illegal money, saying development requires integrity, discipline, hard work and respect for the law.
The conference brought together young people to discuss their rights and development, with particular focus on the constitutional right to development under Section 30.
