While former MEC Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mpesi was serving notice before walking out of the institution on August 21, 2026, the electoral body last month paid school fees for his sons at Mount Sinai and Kamuzu Academy schools for the next school session starting next month.
Documents show that MEC paid Kamuzu Academy K6,454,500 school fees for Daniel Mpesi on July 16,2026 through national bank account number 457698.
On the same day, July 16, 2026, MEC paid K2.7 million school fees to Mount Sinai school for Nathan Mpesi through its Eco Bank account number
5422500000264.
Mpesi resigned from MEC in May this year according to his letter dated May 24, 2026.
In a press release dated May 27, 2026 and signed by MEC Chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja, Mpesi served three months notice and his last day at the institution was August 21, 2026.
Governance experts have described the payment of school fees for Mpesi’s sons for the next school session after he has left MEC as an abuse of resources and have called for a refund of the funds.
