Vice President Dr Jane Ansah, through her foundation, has distributed assorted relief and farming items to vulnerable households and cooperatives in Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe in Rumphi District.
The items included bags of fertiliser, maize, maize seeds, beans, bicycles and tailoring machines.
Speaking during the donation exercise, Dr Ansah encouraged beneficiaries to work together through cooperatives and engage in economic activities to become self-reliant.
She said the foundation was promoting the formation of cooperatives to empower communities and contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.
Dr Ansah also urged beneficiaries to increase food production to achieve household food and economic security.
The initiative is aimed at complementing government efforts in supporting food-insecure families across the country.
The event was attended by Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe, Rumphi Central Member of Parliament Dr Matthews Mtumbuka and District Commissioner Thomas Chigwenembe.
