Member of Parliament for Mulanje Central Kondwani Nankhumwa has moved a motion in Parliament expressing concern over the discontinuation of criminal cases involving political figures in the ruling party. He claims that some of these cases are being quietly dropped, allegedly in exchange for large sums of money.
Nankhumwa questioned whether it is acceptable for certain individuals to be treated as being above the law. He warned that if such practices continue, they could undermine efforts to combat corruption and the mismanagement of public resources.
In response, Minister of Justice Charles Mhango stated that the Member of Parliament did not provide specific examples of cases that have been discontinued by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
