Muslims urged to strengthen faith as FGRF donates food relief in Mulanje

Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Chaponda, has urged the Muslim community to remain steadfast in their faith and prayers as the holy month of Ramadan approaches its final days.

Chaponda made the remarks during a food distribution exercise in Mulanje Southwest organized by the Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRF), which has been providing humanitarian support to vulnerable families during the sacred month.

“The holy month of Ramadan offers believers an opportunity to deepen their relationship with God, embrace generosity, and strengthen prayers for peace, unity, and economic stability in Malawi,” the minister said.

He encouraged Muslims to observe the remaining fasting days with commitment and devotion.

The event at Chonde Catholic Ground benefited about 3,000 families who received food packs, part of FGRF’s nationwide Ramadan relief programme that has reached nearly 26,000 families across the country.

Ibrahim Omar Mataya, FGRF Director of Public Relations and Communications, said the initiative reflects the core teachings of Islam, which emphasize caring for neighbours and ensuring no one goes hungry.

Mataya added that the foundation aims not only to provide essential food but also to restore dignity, hope, and solidarity among families struggling with rising living costs.

Chaponda praised FGRF for its continued humanitarian efforts, describing the donations as a reflection of compassion and Islamic values in action, and encouraged the community to carry forward these teachings beyond Ramadan.
