Pressure on Ansah to account for UK trip

Pressure has mounted on first Vice President to disclose whether she used her personal resources for her UK trip in December.
.
She traveled to attend her husband’s 80th birthday celebration.

Leaked documents showed that she would blow about K2.3 billion, travelling with over 15 officers.

Her office dismissed the K2.3 billion figure.

The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology said she would travel with only five people and that the cost of the travel would be K168 million

The State House also said Ansah had assured that she would use personal funds.

Until now, Ansah has not told Malawians whether she used her money, the number of people she traveled with and if she refunded the money if she used the government’s resources.

Director of Church and Society Programme for Blantyre Synod of the CCAP, Rev. Donnex Ngalande, has asked Ansah to account for the trip.

“Up to now there has been no public clarity: whether any public
funds were used, whether they have been refunded, if they were, or whether the assurance of using personal resources was fulfilled,” said Ngalande.

Ngalande said in the spirit of transparency and trust between government and the people, it is necessary for the mist to be cleared l.

” Proverbs 11:1 reminds us that _“a just weight is the delight of the Lord.”

“We are therefore, calling not for accusations but for clarity. A simple statement from the relevant authorities confirming how the trip was funded will protect the integrity of the Office of the Vice President, uphold public trust, and close room for speculation,” Ngalande

He added;: “As CSP Blantyre Synod, we stand for governance that is open and accountable and respectful of the people’s right to know, how resources are used.”?”
