Ansah Joins President Mutharika in Mourning MBC Director General Brian Banda

Vice President Dr. Jane Mayemu Ansah has joined President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and First Lady Professor Gertrude Mutharika in mourning the death of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Director General Brian Banda.

In a condolence message, Ansah described Banda as a dedicated media professional and distinguished leader whose contribution to Malawi’s broadcasting industry will be remembered for generations.

The Vice President said Banda served MBC and the broadcasting industry with commitment, professionalism and distinction, leaving a lasting impact on the country’s media landscape.

Ansah extended her heartfelt condolences to Banda’s family, friends and colleagues, saying his contribution to the media fraternity and the development of broadcasting in Malawi would remain valued and appreciated.

“The contribution of Mr. Banda to the media fraternity and to the development of broadcasting in Malawi will be remembered and valued,” reads part of the statement.

Banda died on Saturday at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre after a short illness.

He was 45.

Meanwhile, MBC has announced that Banda will be laid to rest on Monday, August 10, 2026, at M’banda Village in Chileka, Blantyre.

According to MBC Public Relations and Customer Affairs Manager Chisomo Mwamadi, Banda’s remains will be taken from Mthunzi Mortuary at 11am today on Sunday to Word of Faith Church in Chilobwe, where a church service will be held.

Banda was appointed MBC Director General in March this year and was regarded as one of the country’s leading media executives.
