Vice President Dr Jane Mayemu Ansah on Saturday joined thousands of Ngoni people at the foot of Hora Mountain in Mzimba for the 2026 Umthetho Cultural Festival, an annual event that celebrates and preserves Ngoni culture and traditions.
The festival, held under the theme “Mzimba: United for Land Preservation and Sustainable Development,” attracted traditional leaders, government officials and visitors from across Malawi and neighbouring countries.
Ansah, who is of Ngoni descent, was among the high-profile guests at the gathering, alongside Second Vice President Enock Chihana, who represented President Arthur Peter Mutharika.
The festival was also attended by several traditional leaders, including Inkosi ya Makhosi Zulu Gama of Tanzania, Inkosi ya Makhosi Gomani V of the Maseko Ngoni and former Vice President Khumbo Kachali.
Umthetho remains one of the country’s most significant cultural celebrations, bringing together Ngoni communities to reflect on their heritage while discussing issues affecting their development and future.
