Mulhako wa Alhomwe has stepped up preparations for its annual feast scheduled for October 18 at Chonde in Mulanje District.
The feast will be held under the theme “Heritage Preservation for Sustainable Development.”
Mulhako wa Alhomwe chairperson Muchanakwaye Mpuluka said preparations are at an advanced stage, with the theme guiding the activities and cultural showcases planned for the event.
“We are using this theme in all we are going to do, and all we are going to showcase,” he said.
Mpuluka said the feast is open to everyone, regardless of their cultural background.
He said the event is more than a celebration of Lhomwe culture as it also brings together people from different cultures.
“It is more than celebration of the Lhomwe culture, but a gathering that brings together diverse cultures; hence, it unites Malawians,” he said.
Mulhako wa Alhomwe was established in 2007 to promote, preserve and revive Lhomwe culture and traditions.
The annual feast features traditional dances, music, food and other cultural activities, attracting people from different parts of the country.
This year’s event will focus on preserving cultural heritage while bringing people from different backgrounds together.
