On Thursday, 11 September, Rodwell Kamenya, well known as Mr Handisamu, graduated from Sabwera Driving School in Blantyre.
Mr Handisamu, who was sponsored by the Jane Ansah Foundation, attended driving lessons at Sabwera Driving School in July.
The driving school, which works closely with the Jane Ansah Foundation, offered a scholarship to Handisamu, making him the first person with short stature to attend driving lessons at the school.
He has also obtained his driving licence from Malawi Road Traffic Directorate after successfully passing the required driving examinations.
In his remarks, he commended the Jane Ansah Foundation, led by the Vice President of Malawi, Dr Jane Ansah, for believing in his dreams, as he always imagined that one day he would be able to drive a manual vehicle despite his height.
He added that his passion for driving began years ago, when he had personal extension pedals which helped him reach the vehicle’s original pedals.
He urged his fellow people with short stature to believe in and have passion for their dreams, saying they should not despise their own efforts.
He described being short as not a disability, but a matter of nature.
