Speaker of the Malawi National Assembly Sammer Suleman has vowed to destroy the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) from within the party over fights for business opportunities and other yet to be clear motives, this publication can reveal.
Sammeer Suleman who is also a member of the Democratic Progressive Party DPP National Governing Committee (NGC) has confided in his close friends [ Names withheld] that he is bitter with DPP leadership for apparently sidelining him from business opportunities since the DPP wrestled power from the Malawi Congress Party in September 2025 Presidential elections.
According to our sources, Suleman has been bragging about single handily funding the 2025 DPP campaign using his personal resources but that after the victory, he has ben reduced to a side show.
‘ I abandoned Nakhumwa when he wanted to take over the DPP. Chimapita chipani ichi without me. I had a clear gentleman’s agreement with APM to come back.I funded the campaign from Nsanje to Chitipa. Lero odyela business akhale achina Chisale, Mukhito, the First lady and her Son Tadikila? And they are blocking me … I cant accept this.. not me’. I am the Speaker, Tiona’.
Suleman who is known for political controversy surprised many Malawian last Friday when without notice he called for a press conference at Parliament during which he accused his own party in government; DPP of being corrupt and failing Malawians.
The Speaker specially targeted the department of Immigration under DPP secretary General Peter Mukhito as line Minister and Norman Chisale as his Deputy. Suleman said Malawians are suffering to access passports at the depart of immigration because officials in the Ministry are corrupt and they are demanding bribes from applicants.
Suleman announced during the presser that in his capacity as Speaker of Malawi Parliament, he has instituted a total of eleven adhoc parliamentray committees to investigate corruption allegations at Ministry of Homeland Security; department of Immigration, National Oil Company of Malawi (Nocma), the Salima Lilongwe water project, the Blantyre Water board, Electricity supply Corporation of Malawi ESCOM , and the tobacco industry among others .
The Democratic Progressive Party through its Secretary General Peter Mukhito has expressed surprise at the developments warning the Speaker not undermine his own party and President by creating an alternative centre of power in the government. Meanwhile Malawi Government Spokesperson and Minister of Information Dr. Shadric Namalomba has also censored the Speaker calling him ignorant.
‘ ignorance is not good. The Speaker does not have the powers he is purporting to exercise. We are not telling him how to work but clearly, he does not not know the mandate of his office,’’ Namalomba told Lutha Television in an interview .
Sammeer Suleman, formerly of Peoples Party (PP) once teamed up with Kondwani Nankhumwa , Nicholus Dausi, Gilzelder Jeffery and started a rebellion against Professor Arthur Mutharika leadership of the DPP in the run up to 2025 elections campaings . The crew attempted to take over the DPP but failed.
Kondwani Nankhumwa, Nicholus Dausi, and Gilzeder Jeffrey were fired from the party while Suleman was forgiven and appointed to the DPP NGC
