Lands, Housing and Urban Development Minister Chimwemwe Chipungu has directed ministry officials to turn decisions made during management meetings into action to improve service delivery and unlock more land for development.
Chipungu made the remarks on Tuesday when he presided over a management meeting at the Ministry.
He said civil servants have a long-term responsibility to serve Malawians and should therefore ensure that resolutions reached during meetings are implemented.
“We should ensure that resolutions made during management meetings are put into action to improve service delivery,” said Chipungu.
The Acting Commissioner of Lands, Peter Chikweni, told the meeting that plans to provide water in Area 32, Lilongwe, are at an advanced stage, with Lilongwe Water Board having already provided a quotation.
Chikweni said the Ministry is also working to facilitate the installation of electricity in Area 41 to enable the allocation of plots once the required infrastructure is in place.
He added that the Ministry plans to upgrade access roads in Areas 43, 47, 16 and 44 to improve accessibility and make the areas more suitable for development.
Meanwhile, Chipungu commended the team that conducted the Land Ownership Audit, saying the exercise had identified issues requiring attention.
He said the findings should help the Ministry strengthen land administration and improve service delivery.
The meeting also considered the need for the Ministry to engage stakeholders to support mobility and strengthen its capacity to effectively deliver its mandate.
The Ministry says the ongoing initiatives are aimed at unlocking more land for development while ensuring that essential infrastructure such as water, electricity and roads is provided before plots are allocated.
